The stage production of the opera won, in 2017, the XXXVII “Franco Abbiati” Prize of the Italian Musical Critics for sets, costumes, lighting, and video, with the following citation: “for the courageous depiction of contemporary social poverty through the fairy tale of Hänsel und Gretel, ennobled by the perfect balance of realism and poetry, in a magical performance of rare technical perfection.”

The original staging comes from Teatro alla Scala, where it was first presented in September 2017, and is now owned by Teatro Lirico di Cagliari. The production won the XXXVII “Franco Abbiati” Prize of the Italian Musical Critics in 2017 for sets, costumes, lighting, and video design.
