Three international stars appear on the stage of the Royal Swedish Opera when Stéphane Degout, fresh from the premiere of Wozzeck at the Opéra de Lyon last month, joins Peter Mattei and Malin Byström in a major operatic experience based on a true story about war and vulnerability.
Hear two of our foremost singers in Alban Berg’s masterpiece, first performed in 1925 — a work whose profound themes resonate strongly with today’s world. This production is a co‑production between the Royal Swedish Opera and the Opéra National de Lyon, directed by Richard Brunel.
The soldier Wozzeck is manipulated in a surveillance society. Traumatized and deranged, he murders his lover, but at the same time falls victim to a devastating mental breakdown under the gaze of those in power. It is a story of vulnerability, mental health, and the universal human need for compassion.
